I thought I knew what a good fragrance smelled like… until I realized I’d only been smelling half the story.
When I first stepped into the fragrance world, I had no idea what layering even was. I didn’t realize how much creativity goes into it—or how it can completely transform your entire olfactory experience.
In my last post, I shared how this journey started. But what I didn’t say is this: my husband—the one who sparked my love for scents—also introduced me to something that completely changed everything for me.
One day, he walked past me wearing Maison Margiela’s Replica Bubble Bath and Replica Sailing Days—and I literally stopped in my tracks. It was the freshest, most beautiful thing I had ever smelled. Clean, airy, soft… but also aquatic and alive.
I was confused. I could smell Bubble Bath, but also Sailing Days. So I asked him, “Which one are you wearing?”
He said: both.
My mind was blown.
At the time, I didn’t experiment much myself—I only had my original two bottles, and layering felt almost… advanced. But that moment stuck with me.
Fast forward to a recent cologne shopping trip. He picked up a couple of new scents, including Alberto Rossi’s Santal Oud, and somehow it layered perfectly with Duke Cannon’s Seawolf. That’s when it clicked again—layering isn’t random… it’s intentional, creative, and honestly kind of addictive.
So when I finally got my hands on my 12-bottle collection, I started experimenting for real.
My first combo? Chloe + Bubble Bath.

And wow… it was divine.
The kind of scent that lingers and makes people turn their heads. I’d hear things like, “Do you smell that?” “Yeah… but who is it?” And the best part? It wasn’t just one fragrance—it was the combination.
That’s when I fell all the way down the rabbit hole—scents, layering, and everything in between.
If I’m being honest, layering is at least 50% of the reason Fragrantfiend even exists today.
